Imposter Syndrome is Just a Mood, Not Your Truth

Sep 05, 2025

Did you know that nearly 70% of high-achieving people experience imposter syndrome at some point in their lives? That means the self-doubt you feel when you’re stepping into new territory isn’t unique, it’s human. But here’s the thing: imposter syndrome is not proof you’re failing. It’s actually proof you’re growing.

If you’ve ever asked yourself, “Who do you think you are to do this?” you’re in the right place. In this blog, I’ll share the exact tools I used to reframe imposter syndrome, build confidence, and step into my main character's energy.

What Is Imposter Syndrome Really?

Most people talk about imposter syndrome like it’s a permanent label. But the truth is, it’s not who you are, it’s a temporary mood. Just like fear, excitement, or nervousness, it shows up when you’re expanding your comfort zone.

The problem is that many ambitious women interpret it as a red light. They stop posting, stop applying, stop showing up. But the reality? Imposter syndrome is actually a green light. It’s a sign you’re leveling up.

The Pain of Self-Doubt

Let’s get real. Self-doubt hurts. It feels like:

  • Second-guessing every move you make.
  • Asking yourself if people will laugh, judge, or dismiss you.
  • Wondering if you’re “good enough” or “qualified enough.”

I’ve been there. When I pivoted from healthcare to launching a digital marketing agency, I felt like a total fraud. I didn’t know the language of business. I didn’t have decades of experience. And every day, that little voice in my head whispered, “You don’t belong here.”

But stopping wasn’t an option. So I had to find a different way to face it.

My Story: From Fear to Fuel

When I first started building my business, imposter syndrome hit me hard. I had moments where I thought, I should just quit. Who am I to run a company?

But here’s what shifted everything: I realized that no one knows what they’re doing when they first start out. Every expert was once a beginner.

Instead of letting self-doubt paralyze me, I began to treat it as proof I was entering new territory. And that meant I was growing.

That mindset shift allowed me to keep going, even when I was scared. And the more I showed up, the more confidence I built.

The Main Character Moves to Overcome Imposter Syndrome

Here are the five exact moves I teach my clients, and use myself to kick imposter syndrome to the curb and step into confidence:

1. Start Your Brag Bitch List (BBL)

Write down every accomplishment, big or small. Every challenge you’ve overcome. Every time you showed up when it was hard.

  • This becomes your personal vault of evidence.
  • Use it as proof of your strength when doubt creeps in.
  • Bonus: I created a free downloadable PDF to help you start your own BBL.

2. Reframe Imposter Syndrome as Growth

When that voice says, “Who are you to do this?” remind yourself: this isn’t failure, it’s proof of growth. You’re stretching your edges. That’s the point.

3. Adopt a Growth Mindset

Confidence isn’t something you’re born with. It’s built. A growth mindset means:

  • Seeing challenges as opportunities to learn.
  • Recognizing mistakes as feedback, not failure.
  • Believing your skills can always improve.

4. Fake It Until You Make It (The Right Way)

This isn’t about being fake. It’s about embodying your highest self even before you feel like her. Show up as the confident version of you now, and let your actions catch up with your mindset.

5. Set Boundaries and Protect Your Energy

Look at who you’re surrounding yourself with. Are they lifting you higher or pulling you down? Protecting your energy is a main character move. Choose people who see your growth and support it.

Advanced Tips: Navigating Doubt Like a Pro

  • Expect it to return. Imposter syndrome doesn’t disappear once you “make it.” It’s normal for it to resurface when you hit new levels.
  • Call it out. When the thought comes up, literally say, “I see you, but you don’t define me.” Naming it takes away its power.
  • Celebrate micro-wins. Big wins matter, but stacking small daily wins builds unshakable confidence over time.

Your Main Character Energy Awaits

Imposter syndrome isn’t a verdict on who you are. It’s just a passing mood, and the fact that you feel it means you’re growing into bigger, bolder spaces. The next time that little voice shows up, remember: it’s proof you’re leveling up, not a reason to stop.
